General Motors (GM) India is eyeing to strengthen its diesel cars range since the need for the variant surges due to the difference in price with petrol variant. The auto maker is expected to unveil the diesel variant of its compact car Beat by this month. It is also planning to unveil similar variants of other models as well.
Mr Karl Slym, President and Managing Director, Genral Motors India, said, “There is always a possibility of extending the diesel option to what customers demand. Currently, the Aveo UVA is available only in petrol variant and the Aveo sedan is available in both petrol and CNG.
Reports suggest that the consumer demand for diesel cars is surging as the price difference between petrol and diesel fuel stands at Rs 26 per litre.
The firm has the potential to fulfill the demand for diesel vehicles. The company's engine plant at Talegaon has an annual capacity of 1.6 lakh units, and it can meet the enhanced demand. The firm's latest Beat diesel model will have a one-litre, three-cylinder engine.
